On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Mr. Sawetachat Japsil, a lecturer from the School of Law, Walailak University, was assigned as a representative to participate in an academic forum on the topic “Revisiting the Enforcement of Imprisonment in Lieu of Fines to Align with Human Rights Principles” at Rama Gardens Hotel, Bangkok. On this occasion, he contributed knowledge in the field of International Human Rights Law and exchanged academic perspectives with experts and relevant organizations.

The forum was organized by the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC), which assigned the Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand to study issues related to the enforcement of imprisonment in lieu of fines. The initiative also aims to gather input from all sectors in order to develop policy recommendations for the promotion and protection of human rights, in accordance with its authority under Section 247(3) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand B.E. 2560 (2017).

During the forum, the representative from the School of Law presented principled perspectives and systematic development approaches, contributing to the review of imprisonment in lieu of fines to ensure appropriateness, fairness, and consistency with international human rights standards. This engagement further reinforces Walailak University’s role in advancing legal knowledge toward the sustainable development of the national justice system.

During February 11–13, 2026, Mr. Pete Pimanprom, a lecturer of the School of Law, Walailak University, was honored to serve as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

On this occasion, he delivered a special lecture titled:
“Foundations of Fiscal Sovereignty: A Comparative Legal Analysis of Thai and Indonesian Tax Systems,” which provided a comparative analysis of fiscal sovereignty principles and the structure of tax systems in Thailand and Indonesia—an important topic within the fields of public law and international economic law.

In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the School of Law, Walailak University, and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta to establish a foundation for long-term academic collaboration. This includes faculty and student exchanges, joint research, academic activities, and international curriculum development.

This collaboration reflects the School of Law’s role in strengthening academic networks within the ASEAN community, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and advancing legal knowledge on an international scale.

The School of Law, Walailak University, would like to extend its congratulations to Mr. Chaiya Sirikul, an alumnus of the Law Program (Student ID 61, Cohort 4), on the occasion of successfully completing all requirements of the Institute of Legal Education of the Thai Bar under the Royal Patronage and graduating as a Barrister-at-Law, Class 77, within one year.

He was granted the Barrister-at-Law certificate of Class 77 by His Majesty the King on February 15, 2026.

He is currently appointed as a Legal Officer under the Community Health Council.

On February 14, 2026, the School of Law organized the course LAW63-333: Advocacy and Mock Trial. The course was taught by Mr. Taweesak Rattanawongdej, an experienced professional lawyer, as a special lecturer, with Ms. Thaweeporn Kongkaew serving as the course coordinator. The program focused on enhancing students’ capabilities by combining in-depth theoretical knowledge with systematic practical skill training.

The course was designed to integrate both theoretical and practical learning. It encouraged students to develop systematic analytical thinking based on academic principles, recognize legal professional ethics, and understand the roles and responsibilities of legal professionals in all dimensions. The course content covered law office management, legal consultation, case preparation, drafting pleadings and statements of defense, as well as techniques for witness examination and courtroom advocacy.

The teaching approach emphasized lectures alongside practical training through simulated scenarios (Mock Trial) at the Mock Courtroom of Walailak University. This allowed students to experience a realistic courtroom environment, build confidence, develop quick thinking, enhance courtroom communication skills, and apply legal principles to factual situations in a professional manner.

The School of Law, Walailak University, led third-year law students enrolled in the course “Bankruptcy Law and Business Reorganization” on a study visit to the Legal Execution Office, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, to enhance their knowledge and deepen their understanding of bankruptcy law and business reorganization processes in practice.

On Friday, February 13, 2026, the study visit was led by Mr. Tinlapas Chupanthanarakul, a lecturer of the School of Law. The activity aimed to broaden students’ learning through real-world situations, allowing them to closely observe the operations of a government agency that plays a significant role in law enforcement.

On this occasion, Mr. Paween Kumar, Director of the Legal Execution Office of Nakhon Si Thammarat, together with legal officers and government officials, warmly welcomed the students and shared their knowledge and experiences. The session covered both theoretical perspectives and practical applications of the law, reflecting the processes of legal execution, asset management in bankruptcy cases, and approaches to business reorganization.

The objectives of this study visit were as follows:

To enhance students’ in-depth understanding of bankruptcy law and business reorganization.
To provide students with the opportunity to learn about procedures, processes, and operational practices of the Legal Execution Office through real-life experience.
To promote learning beyond the classroom by connecting academic knowledge with the practical enforcement of law in real societal contexts.

This study visit is another example of the School of Law’s teaching approach, which aims to produce law graduates equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding, and who are well-prepared to pursue professional legal careers with quality in the future.

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, students from the Law Program participated in a study visit to strengthen their experiential learning and deepen their integrated understanding between medical science and the criminal justice system at the Forensic and Pathology Unit, Walailak University Medical Center Hospital.

This study visit provided students with the opportunity to closely observe forensic practices, including medical evidence examination, autopsy procedures, and the role of pathology in supporting factual findings in legal cases. These are all essential components in criminal investigations and in presenting evidence during court proceedings.

On this occasion, the students were honored to receive knowledge and guidance from the medical personnel of Walailak University Medical Center Hospital, who shared their expertise, experiences, and systematic approaches to handling real-case scenarios. This enabled students to recognize the importance of accuracy, precision, and professional ethics, which are fundamental to the justice system.

The activity was part of the course LAW63-380: Forensic Medicine, offered in the second semester of the 2025 academic year. The course was coordinated by Assistant Professor Dr. Surasak Wichitpongjinda, a special lecturer, and Ms. Kwanmanee Maneechot, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, who served as the course coordinator.

This field-based learning experience reflects the School of Law’s educational approach, which emphasizes the integration of legal knowledge with other disciplines in a concrete manner. On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, students from the Law Program, School of Law, Walailak University, participated in a study visit at the Emergency Medicine and Forensic Medicine Unit, Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital. The visit aimed to strengthen their knowledge and provide hands-on experience in forensic medicine, which serves as a crucial foundation for criminal investigations, inquiries, and evidence examination in court proceedings.

On this occasion, the Deputy Director of Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital warmly welcomed the students, along with a team of physicians and personnel from the Emergency Medicine and Forensic Medicine Unit. The team shared their expertise, professional experiences, and practical approaches in handling real-life situations, providing students with close and valuable learning opportunities.

On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the School of Law, Walailak University, welcomed teachers and students from Benjamarachutit School. The event was led by Ms. Thaweeporn Kongkaew, Acting Deputy Dean of the School of Law; Ms. Kwanmanee Maneechot, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs; and Ms. Pradipa Suwanrat, Assistant Dean for Public Relations and Academic Development, together with the Law Student Club. They jointly organized the project “Social Studies, Religion and Culture Enrichment Tutoring” to enhance knowledge, understanding, and experience in social sciences for secondary school students.

The activities included an introduction to the School of Law’s programs, recreational activities to promote creative learning, a general lecture on the justice system and the role of the courts, as well as a mock trial demonstration in a defamation by publication case. This provided students with the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience, deepening their understanding of court proceedings and the roles and responsibilities of legal professionals in a clear and practical manner.

The objective of the project was to support and prepare students who are interested in social sciences—particularly in law and governance—by helping them develop their potential and plan appropriate educational and career paths for the future. The event was held at the Mock Trial Laboratory, Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
