On August 7, 2015, students from the Faculty of Law, Walailak University, had the opportunity to enter the courtroom of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Court to perform a mock trial in honor of “Rabi Day,” an important day in the legal profession commemorating His Royal Highness Prince Ratchaburi Direkrit, the Father of Thai Law.
In an atmosphere of excitement and determination, students took on the roles of judges, lawyers, and witnesses for both the plaintiff and defendant in two hypothetical cases: a breach of contract for damages, and a criminal defamation case. They were supervised by:
Lecturer Tinlapat Chuphantanarakul,
Lecturer Dr. Kornthima Pattanasin,
Lecturer Phiraphat Pleumjai, and
Lecturer Peet Phimanphrom.
👩⚖️ After the performance, each team received hands-on instruction from the judge, public prosecutor, and lawyer, who provided instruction on advocacy techniques, witness questioning, and the correct use of legal terminology. Students also learned about mediation and dispute resolution. A mediation simulation and a mock court performance by legal experts are “living lessons” that no book can provide.
This activity significantly enhanced professional skills, allowing students to practice case analysis, public communication, and rational decision-making. This practical learning instilled a spirit of justice in them, preparing them for future professional legal careers. It also fostered stronger ties between the university and agencies in the justice system.
The event was honored to have the Chief Judge of the Juvenile and Family Court of Trang Province, temporarily serving as Chief Judge of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Court, graciously present certificates to the students participating in this activity.
📍 Thank you to the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Court and all staff for making this day filled with knowledge, experience, and inspiration.
