History of the School

Background : School of Law, Walailak University

Walailak University originally had a law curriculum under the School of Political Science and Law which at that time was a guideline made according to a memo from Dr.Keerath Sa-nguansai, the Chancellor of Walailak University, dated 17 October 2011, on requesting cooperation in the preparation of the “Establishing a new school” project. This is in response to Walailak University’s policy of producing graduates to fulfill the requirements of society and to become an ideal university in accordance with the university’s original objectives.

The establishment of the School of Political Science and Law is thus a guideline developed in accordance with the conceptual framework for the development of Walailak University (2011-2015), Section 2.2 concerning the establishment of a new school with a social sciences or politics & government school. Following the establishment of the School of Political Science and Law. On 7 August 2018, Walailak University sent an official document to the Institute of Legal Education of the Thai Bar at Sor Thor 57 33 00/7106, requesting that educational standards be equated so that graduates of the law program can apply to be students of the Institute of Legal Education of the Thai Bar according to the regulations of the Thai Bar Association, B.E. 2507, Section 56 (2). As a result, at their 398th meeting on 21 November 2018, the Committee for Legal Education of the Institute of Legal Education of the Thai Bar considered and resolved to certify the educational standards for Walailak University graduates with a bachelor of law degree which equivalent not lower than the academic standing of the graduate with a bachelor’s degree of law from Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University, or Ramkhamhaeng University in accordance with the regulations of the Thai Bar Association, B.E. 2507, Section 56 (2). With Walailak University’s potential and preparedness in all aspects, as well as the growing number of people interested in studying in the law program, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Chancellor of Walailak University with a broad vision in terms of development and administration, proposed to the university council that the law curriculum be separated from the school of political science and law and rechristened “School of Law.” Therefore, Walailak University Council issued a regulation stipulating Walailak University on the establishment of academic institutions, cemented by the first paragraph of Section 7 and Section 16(2)(4) of the Walailak University Act 1992, together with the resolution of the Walailak University Council in the meeting No. 5/2022 on 14 May 2022, for the advantage of administration, management of education, research, academic services, and the preservation of arts and culture.
