Nakhon Si Thammarat, July 25, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The School of Law at Walailak University reinforced its commitment to community engagement through the academic service project \u201cEmpowering Youth with Legal Knowledge to Prevent Drug Abuse<\/strong>\u201d The activity was held at \ud83d\udccd Thepsirin Nakhon Si Thammarat School<\/strong> (formerly Chalerm Ratchapracha Uthit) in Phra Phrom District as part of the event \u201cChang Sai Samphan Network Gathering, 3rd edition<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>

Led by Miss Khwanmanee Maneechote, Acting Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, together with faculty members, staff, and law students<\/strong>, the initiative aimed to translate classroom knowledge into practical community benefits. The program emphasized two core skill sets: (1) equipping students with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for young audiences, and (2) fostering engagement and problem-solving skills through interaction with the local community. Law students must not only know the law but also understand people and serve society with empathy. This activity provides them with the opportunity to practice both.<\/p>

The program focused on drug-related laws, highlighting both the dangers of substance abuse and the severe legal consequences. By doing so, it helped children, youth, and community members recognize their roles in preventing drug problems and upholding civic responsibility.<\/p>

As part of their LAW67-231 Criminal Law course, students also developed the campaign \u201cWhere there is a community, there is law.\u201d Educational materials, including brochures, QR codes, and digital resources, were distributed to make legal knowledge more accessible.<\/p>

The initiative was designed to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):<\/p>

\ud83c\udfaf SDG 4.3.4 (Quality Education): By offering workshop-based and group learning activities, the project provided equal opportunities for students, teachers, and community members to access reliable legal knowledge.<\/p>

\ud83c\udfaf SDG 17.2.5 (Partnerships for Sustainable Development): By building partnerships among universities, schools, health centers, local police, and village leaders, the activity laid the groundwork for a sustainable learning society.<\/p>

By bridging academic knowledge with real-world practice, Walailak University\u2019s School of Law continues to promote lifelong learning, community resilience, and social responsibility.<\/p>

\u201cThis project shows that legal education can go beyond classrooms,\u201d Miss Maneechote added. \u201cIt can empower young people, strengthen communities, and build a society prepared for future challenges.\u201d Through this initiative, Walailak University not only addressed the urgent issue of drug prevention but also advanced its broader mission of creating knowledge, building opportunities, and enhancing quality of life.<\/p>
