On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Mr. Sawetachat Japsil, a lecturer from the School of Law, Walailak University, was assigned as a representative to participate in an academic forum on the topic \u201cRevisiting the Enforcement of Imprisonment in Lieu of Fines to Align with Human Rights Principles\u201d at Rama Gardens Hotel, Bangkok. On this occasion, he contributed knowledge in the field of International Human Rights Law and exchanged academic perspectives with experts and relevant organizations.<\/p>

The forum was organized by the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC), which assigned the Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand to study issues related to the enforcement of imprisonment in lieu of fines. The initiative also aims to gather input from all sectors in order to develop policy recommendations for the promotion and protection of human rights, in accordance with its authority under Section 247(3) of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand B.E. 2560 (2017).<\/p>

During the forum, the representative from the School of Law presented principled perspectives and systematic development approaches, contributing to the review of imprisonment in lieu of fines to ensure appropriateness, fairness, and consistency with international human rights standards.
