Nakhon Si Thammarat, August 20, 2025 – The School of Law, Walailak University, reinforced its commitment to community engagement through the academic service project “Empowering Youth with Legal Knowledge to Prevent Drug Abuse” The program was held at  Triam Udom Suksa School of the South and the Thung Thalad Community in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, led by Miss Khwanmanee Maneechote, Acting Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, together with faculty members, staff, and law students.

💡 The initiative aimed to translate classroom knowledge into real-world benefits, focusing on two key areas: simplifying complex legal concepts for children, youth, and the general public, and fostering community engagement skills among law students. Through interactive workshops and group learning activities, students helped participants understand both the dangers of drug abuse and the strict legal consequences of drug-related offenses.

🎯 The project was also designed to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

🎯 SDG 4.3.4 (Quality Education): Providing equal access to quality legal knowledge through hands-on workshops and group activities for students, teachers, and community members.

🎯 SDG 17.2.5 (Partnerships for Sustainable Development): Building strong networks among universities, schools, local communities, health centers, and police stations to sustain long-term learning and social development.

📚 As part of their coursework in LAW67-231: Criminal Law (Offences and Petty Crimes), students applied their knowledge through the campaign “Where There is a Community, there is Law.” They developed brochures, QR codes, and digital resources to make legal knowledge more accessible. Beyond drug law, the project also promoted awareness of citizenship law and civic duties.

Through this initiative, the School of Law, Walailak University advanced its mission of empowering youth, enhancing community capacity, and fostering life skills, building a sustainable, resilient, and drug-free society.

The activities included collaborative workshops with students and teachers to address real-life issues arising from the application of the Civil and Commercial Code, alongside providing 💬 legal consultations and conducting 📝 surveys of students’ and teachers’ perspectives on potential reforms of the Code. In addition, a special seminar under the same theme was held, attracting wide interest and active participation.

The project covered the 📘 Civil and Commercial Code in its entirety, focusing on rights, duties, and legal relationships relevant to everyday life. It aimed to help participants gain a clearer understanding of fundamental legal principles, while also creating an open platform for students and teachers to express their views on how Thai law should evolve to meet modern social contexts.

🌍 This initiative demonstrates Walailak University’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  1. SDG 4.3.4: 🎓 Education outreach activities beyond campus – by extending legal education beyond the university to those directly affected by the law, sharing knowledge and experiences, and generating reflections and recommendations for improvements in specialized areas of law.
  2. SDG 17.2.1: 🤝 Relationships with regional NGOs and government for SDG policy – by fostering collaboration with schools and local organizations to advance legal knowledge and support sustainable social development.

In addition, the project aligns with the 📊 UI Green Metric World University Rankings under Education and Research (ED):

  • ED1: The ratio of sustainability courses to total courses/subjects 📚

✨ Ultimately, this project not only enhanced legal awareness among students and teachers but also served as a vital public platform for dialogue, recommendations, and the expression of voices from the education sector, thereby contributing to the development of Thai law in ways that are responsive to the evolving needs of society.

They will use reallife examples to help participants understand and apply the information correctly and safely in daily life. The sessions also include fraud prevention topics to raise awareness and help communities prevent legal risks.

          🌍 English Language Skills

Students from LAW63367 English for Legal Reading and Research have prepared brochures, links, and QR codes containing content on International Legal News and Legal Vocabulary. These materials will help youth and community members access information conveniently while developing modern legal English skills.
